READY MIX CONCRETE- Real Facts & Common Understanding

Cement concrete is a wonderful construction material of high strength which can be cast and molded to desired shapes at atmospheric temperature. It is a mixture of cement, sand, stone, stone jelly and water. In the beginning it was mixed manually at the site later the concrete mixing machine was developed to reduce labor and save time.
The process of mixing at site requires a lot of careful control in the proportion of cement, sand, aggregate and water to obtain a good quality concrete. It is very difficult to achieve consistent quality at site because

  • Volume measures are not exact
  • Higher water content is often used to reduce mixing effort sacrificing the quality of hard concrete

Ready mix concrete is a concrete produced under controlled factory condition. Thanks to the modern construction chemicals which have made it possible to keep concrete without setting till it is poured in the site , quality concrete can now be readily delivered to the site in mobile mixers. Computerized mixers mix all constituents of tested quality exactly by weight and mix it correctly in a centralized plant. This completely mechanized production method makes concrete as reliable as any other factory produced material like steel or cement. Apart from providing control and quality assurance it has other advantage like,

  • Reduction of labor
  • Speedier placement of concrete
  • Economy

The manufacturer provides quality assurance by getting your concrete tested for strength in the laboratory. Every consignment of RMC is always provided with,

  • The weight of each ingredients – cement, aggregate, water and chemical
  • The date and time of delivery
  • The total quantity of concrete in m3
  • The grade of concrete

The Supplier will take test samples (in cube like moulds) and provide you the strength results at 7 and 28 days. The customer can go and witness the testing if he desires.

Hence in these days of labor shortage and labor problems, ready mix concrete is a must. All big construction is now using ready mixed concrete. Very big projects have dedicated RMC plants in their own sites. To summaries, RMC is the same concrete that we were using, made in a better way. Its use must be encouraged in all construction.
